DAVIDSON CONTEMPORARY MOVES TO NEW SPACE

Maxwell Davidson Gallery and Davidson Contemporary have moved to a new space in Chelsea, NYC, which opens September 2014.

DAVIDSON CONTEMPORARY MOVES TO NEW SPACE

Osmond has been represented by the Davidson Contemporary Gallery in New York for seven years. The gallery, which has been housed at its midtown digs at 57th Street and Fifth Avenue since its founding in 1968 by Maxwell Davidson III, will move to the top two floors of 521 West 26 Street. Maxwell Davidson Gallery joins the ranks of uptown and midtown galleries relocating to Chelsea.

The new gallery is a total re-design by Murdock Salon Architects, complete with a glass-enclosed atrium and flanked by two expansive outdoor roof decks with views of the Hudson River.

“We wanted more foot traffic,” Maxwell Davidson IV told ARTINFO about their decision to move downtown. “We though it would be important for our younger artists.” But the move is also intended to benefit the more established artists who would now fare better in Chelsea than they would have 15 years ago, according to Davidson, when Chelsea was considered more of “a hotbed for young artists.”
