Constellation #I

Constellation Series references the physical nature of the universe, drawing on the natural laws of physics without actually using them. The artist defies scientific givens by applying the hand of the maker - the impulsive instinct of the human imagination - to construct astronomical geometrics in a haphazard evolutionary way, capturing the magical mysteries of space and form.

Hundreds of wooden spheres and rods form starbursts that randomly interconnect collectively to create a super-structure that hovers in space. There are no pre-conceived ideas in the making - each adjoining starburst construction evolves from somewhere and finishes nowhere to build an intensely layered mass, like a growing snowball.

The overall form revolves in a gentle, yet unpredictable, manner as the natural airflow passes through the object, casting a moving 3-dimensional shadow onto a surrounding surface.

This experimental composition references planetary structures and how they revolve around each other in the cosmos. Ultimately the intention is to increase the scale of the project to produce a kinetic galaxy of form. In another work, the shadow possibilities will be transformed into a kaleidoscopic film projection.
